Speeches

I thank the co-Chairs of the National Prayer Breakfast, Senators Christopher Coons and James Lankford, and the entire membership of the Host Committee, for the honour of this invitation, and for the opportunity to deliver these remarks at the International Luncheon of the National Prayer Breakfast, now a globally-acclaimed event in its 67th year.

Chairperson, Ashanti Regional Minister, Minister for Inner City and Zongo Development, Ashanti Regional Chief Imam, Chairman of Ashanti Regional Council of Zongo Chiefs, Ulama, Sarakuna, Jama, Asalamu Alaikum!

I am very happy to be here this morning, and to be in the presence of the men and women whose toil, on a daily basis, feeds us, keeps us alive, and plays an important role towards the development of our country. Without the work of our farmers and fisherfolk, it is certain that we cannot realise the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal No.

Welcome, once again, ladies and gentlemen of the media, to Jubilee House, the seat of our nation’s Presidency. We almost missed our promised rendezvous of, at least, two press conferences in a year, but we have made it, and, as the saying goes, better late than never.

We are met here this evening to commemorate the life of an extraordinary Ghanaian, a nationalist, selfless patriot, revered chief, eminent statesman, and one of the three founders of the Danquah-Dombo-Busia political tradition, which gave birth to the New Patriotic Party, the ruling party in Ghana. I am, of course, referring to Simon Diedong Dombo, the Duori Na, S.D Dombo of most blessed memory.
