Priority projects in the Volta Region

President John Dramani Mahama addressed a colourful durbar at the Ho Jubilee Park on Friday, January 24, 2025. He then began his ‘Thank Your Tour’ by assuring the people that the Volta Region would receive its fair share of national development. Acknowledging the current economic crisis, the President outlined innovative financing mechanisms to fund infrastructural projects, including special purpose vehicles (SPVs) and build-operate-transfer (BOT) schemes. He said these will be prioritised while attention is placed on completing several abandoned projects.

The priority projects in the Volta region include:

  • The Eastern Corridor Road.
  • Completion of the Ho-Denu Road.
  • Resurfacing the Have-Hohoe, Dodo Pepesu-Nkwanta, and Kpasa-Nkwanta roads in the Oti Region.
  • Revitalising the Ho Airport with commercial flights and establishing a pilot training school at the facility.
  • Redevelopment of the abandoned Regional Youth Resource Centre at Adaklu-Tsriefe, near Ho.
  • Conducting a feasibility study on the proposed Keta Port and the expansion of the Keta Defence Project.
  • Compensating victims of the Akosombo Dam spillage.
  • Expanding the Volta Palm Initiative to position the region as a hub for agribusiness.
  • Upgrading the University of Health and Allied Sciences and completing the abandoned E-block school.
  • Transforming the Ho Teaching Hospital into a modern, fully equipped teaching hospital.
  • Building a modern market at Aflao to facilitate local business and boost trade with Togo.

President Mahama also acknowledged the vital role traditional rulers in the region play in national governance, expressing his gratitude for their guidance and the NDC’s commitment to collaborate with them. “Our objective to reset Ghana begins in the Volta Region, and we will work to ensure every Ghanaian feels included in all national affairs.”

The Agbogbomefia of Asogli, Togbe Afede XIV, described the NDC’s return to power as a source of renewed hope for Ghanaians. He lauded the President’s determination to retrieve looted state resources and warned against repeating past mistakes.

“We support all your intentions and all your plans to retrieve everything that was lost. Funds that were stolen, lands that were stolen, buildings, etc. Your Excellency, you have our fullest support. We’re excited that you decided to make it unattractive for anybody to embark on that road, and that is why you have warned your appointees. It’s our hope they respect that.”
