President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his campaign pledge to involve traditional leaders in governance, especially in enforcing laws protecting the environment. Speaking at a meeting with the National House of Chiefs Steering Committee, the president thanked the chiefs for their warm welcome into their palaces during the Election 2024 campaign. He further acknowledged their respective roles in welcoming his team, giving them good counsel on how to conduct their campaigns, and ensuring that the election was held in a peaceful atmosphere.
President Mahama said he intends to hold regular dialogues on the country’s growth and development issues. The meeting discussed, among others, the need to review the 1992 constitution and the problem of chieftaincy disputes, many of which have become national security issues.
“We must thank all of you and the Almighty God for once again seeing Ghana through a successful election, and I think that the way the whole world celebrated Ghana for the peaceful transition has added one more accolade in our caps as the beacon of democracy in Africa and it is something that we must all take pride in,” he said. Nana Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, the Mamponghene, congratulated President Mahama on his inauguration.
