A high-powered delegation from the Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, has officially called on President John Dramani Mahama to inform him of the passing and funeral arrangements of the late Tingawura, Alhaji Seidu Sampson Abudu.
The late Tingawura, who served as the Savannah Region representative on the Council of State, passed away on 23 August 2026.
Led by Mandariwura Alhaji Gilbert Seidu Iddi, the delegation informed the President that the seventh-day Islamic funeral prayer (adua) for the late traditional ruler and public servant has been scheduled for Sunday, 30 August, 2026, at Bole in the Savannah Region.
During the visit, the delegation also formally informed President Mahama of the passing of his Family Head, the Kiapewura, who was the Head of the Jaagape Royal Gate of the Bole Traditional Area.
President Mahama expressed deep sorrow over the recent loss of several prominent national and family figures, describing the period as personally painful and a sad time for his administration.
“This month has been a very dreadful month for us because, as they say, when it rains, it pours. We recently lost our brother, Dr Dramani Bukari, the Deputy Chief Executive of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA). And then again, indeed, it was that morning when we were at the funeral of our nephew, Sani Jaja, when the news broke that Tingawura too had passed,” President Mahama stated.
Extending his sympathies to the bereaved families, the President paid tribute to the late Tingawura, commending his dedicated service and patriotic contributions to Ghana’s development.
Present at the meeting was the Chairman of the Council of State, Rt. Hon. Edward Doe Adjaho, alongside senior government officials.
Mr Doe Adjaho paid tribute to the late council member, saying he devoted his life to public service and would be remembered for his selfless contributions and lasting impact on society.
The late Tingawura Alhaji Seidu Sampson Abudu had a distinguished career in public governance, having served as the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Bole District from 2009 to 2013 before his elevation to the Council of State.
