The committee established by President John Dramani Mahama to investigate three petitions filed against the Chief Justice will begin its hearings on Thursday, May 15, 2025.
The five-member committee, chaired by Justice Gabriel Scott Pwamang of the Supreme Court, was formed by the President in accordance with Article 146(6) of the 1992 Constitution, following consultations with the Council of State. The decision was made after determining a prima facie case against the Chief Justice.
According to the Presidential Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Committee will meet three times a week to thoroughly examine the evidence presented in the petitions.
“The President has taken this matter very seriously, ensuring that due process is followed meticulously,” Mr. Kwakye Ofosu stated, adding: “The establishment of this committee reflects the government’s commitment to upholding the integrity of the judiciary and ensuring fairness and transparency in the administration of justice.”
Upon completing its investigations, the Committee will submit its recommendations to the President for further action, as stipulated by the Constitution. The government, the Presidential Spokesperson noted, remains committed to respecting the outcome of the committee’s findings and acting in accordance with the rule of law.
