Speeches

I am honoured by the invitation to be here at this year’s WASSA. This is my second WASSA since assuming the high office of the land. I much enjoyed my first, which was with the Police Service, and I know that I will enjoy this too, my maiden one at Burma Camp as Commander-in-Chief.

It is with considerable pleasure that I am participating in the 4th Rotary International District 9102 Conference, which is being held in our capital city of Accra. Those of you who come from beyond our shores are welcome amongst a people who pride themselves on their sense of hospitality. Akwaaba is our word of welcome, and I hope you enjoy your stay with us.

Good evening, and let me welcome you to the seat of the Presidency of the Republic. I am here, tonight, to perform a very important duty. This is the first time, since assuming, by the grace of God and the generosity of the Ghanaian people, the high office of President of the Republic, I have the honour of presenting credentials to the first set of persons appointed by me, in accordance with Article 74(1) of the Constitution, to safeguard and promote the image and interests of our nation outside these shores.

We are gathered here this afternoon to perform one of the most significant acts in the life of our nation – the induction into office of a new Chief Justice of the Republic. It has been a simple, solemn ceremony of investiture of the head of the Judiciary, the third arm of government.
