Speeches

Good evening, and let me welcome you to the seat of the Presidency of the Republic. I am here, tonight, to perform a very important duty. This is the first time, since assuming, by the grace of God and the generosity of the Ghanaian people, the high office of President of the Republic, I have the honour of presenting credentials to the first set of persons appointed by me, in accordance with Article 74(1) of the Constitution, to safeguard and promote the image and interests of our nation outside these shores.

We are gathered here this afternoon to perform one of the most significant acts in the life of our nation – the induction into office of a new Chief Justice of the Republic. It has been a simple, solemn ceremony of investiture of the head of the Judiciary, the third arm of government.

Let me welcome you all to the seat of the Presidency for this 1st media encounter since I came here. I must, at the outset, thank members of the media, particularly the presidential press corps, for the extent and depth of the coverage they have given to the activities of the Presidency these last six months.

We are gathered here in Oseikrom, Kumasi, capital of the great Asante Kingdom, to mark World Cocoa Day, and, in doing so, celebrate the hundreds of thousands of cocoa farmers across the country who are responsible for the production of a crop, that has, for over a century, been the mainstay of the economy of our country.
